Pagcor releases P15M for streetlights to the airport
Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) recently released P15 million for the installation of high pressured sodium (HPS) lamps from Iloilo City until the Iloilo Airport in the boundary of Sta. Barbara and Cabatuan towns.
City Mayor Jerry Treñas said President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo granted the budget which he earlier requested as chair of the Metro Iloilo Guimaras Economic Development Council (MIGEDC).
Treñas said PAGCOR's general services department head Luis Elardo Senatin was in Iloilo to discuss the details of the multi-million lighting project with Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional director Rolando Asis and officials of the City Engineers Office (CEO).
The multi-million project is subject of a 45-days bidding period. The bidding will center on the installation of 320 HPS lights to be installed within three months period. The project also includes the pedestals, concrete posts and electrical connections, said Treñas.
The chief executive said the electricity bill to be incurred once the HPS lights are operational will be divided from among the municipalities where the lights are located. The HPS lamps will pass Ungka, Jaro up to the towns of Pavia, Sta. Barbara and Cabatuan.
The mayor hopes that the project would be completed before the Dinagyang 2009. The travelers would feel safer when the long stretch of the road from the airport is fully lighted, he said.
