Priest wants status quo in Bacolod Boys Home operation
BACOLOD CITY -- Fr. Fernando Peralta, delegated supervisor of Bacolod Boys Home Foundation Inc. (BBHFI), in a letter addressed to City Mayor Evelio Leonardia requested for a status quo in the administration of the BBHFI.
Earlier, Leonardia appointed Executive Assistant Alex Coloso as administrator of BBHFI which the city claims as its own.
Fr. Peralta has proposed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the city government of Bacolod and the Salesians of Don Bosco relative to the management of BBHFI. But the city has not yet acted on the said MOA.
Fr. Peralta lamented that the long delayed response (of the city on the MOA) would be of no help for the children and youth of the Boys' Home.
Fr. Peralta also asked Mayor Leonardia to reconsider his appointment of Coloso as administrator of BBHFI.
He also asked the city to respect the accreditation given by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on the orphanage for boys.
"Under the DSWD Standard Bureau Manila, the Bacolod Boys' Home Foundation Inc. with SEC Registration Nos. 14112 dated 4th of June 1987, and as a social welfare institution, accredited by the DSWD Region 6 last August 12, 2005 has been undergoing development in the process of standardization which has not been paid attention to for the past years. Institutional Policies and Manual of Operations are being set to meet the required standard for its renewal of accreditation. This should be respected," Fr. Peralta insisted.
Meanwhile, the city government contends that it owns BBHFI since 1965. In fact, Leonardia said, the city has provided funds for the institution ever since.
A source said the city is also questioning the proposed MOA stating that the Salesians of Don Bosco will be the ones to select the persons who will work at the orphanage for boys.
