Wanted: 'Capiz Boy and Girl' officials
ROXAS CITY – The Rotary Club of Metro Roxas (RCMR) will conduct a qualifying examination on September 18 at the Provincial Capitol's Hall of Governors here for its 9th Boys and Girls Week Project on Sept. 22 to 26.
The project which started in 1999 is RCMR's commitment to Rotary International's (RI) youth program in time with its New Generations Month celebration every September.
"The idea about the project was hatched after RCMR had seen the need for the youth to become oriented and acquainted with what our public officials are doing and how they run our local government," said a press release about the project.
The yearly Boys and Girls Week celebration is in coordination with the Capiz provincial government and the Department of Education (DepEd).
The project is open to the top 5 fourth-year students of both public and private schools in the province who will undergo written examination for the top 20 qualifiers. A panel interview will also be conducted to determine the final 15 winners who will be installed as Capiz Boy/Girl Governor,Vice-Governor and Sangguniang Panlalawigan members.
The Boy and Girl officials' immersion in the province's top elected positions will be highlighted by the scheduled exposure trips to the various provincial government development projects.
"The project has earned the support of the provincial government and DepEd Capiz Division because both institutions have recognized and appreciated its noble cause and goals," the release noted.
The RI has been giving importance and recognition to the youth as the "future hope and leaders of our fatherland." The Rotarians also believe they can help build future leaders by helping the youth realize their dreams.
"This year's RI theme "Make Dreams Real" aptly describes RCMR's vision of being a part in making dreams real for our youth leaders," the release added. (RCMR/PIA/A.Lumaque)
