1 Ilonggo crew dead, at least 2 others missing as fishing vessel capsizes off Indonesia
One Ilonggo crew of a fishing vessel that capsized off sea waters of Jakarta, Indonesia was confirmed dead while two others, a father and son team, are among the missing.
The victim was identified as Silverio Ganancial of Barangay Oracon Sur, Nueva Valencia, Province of Guimaras. The victim's sister, Virginia Tamagos confirmed her brother's death over Bombo Radyo Iloilo.
Tamagos said the family got the call Saturday from the owner of the ill-fated fishing vessel she referred to only as one "Mr. Ong." And there is more bad news, she was also told, with her husband, 54 year-old Juanito Tamagos among those missing.
Tamagos was assured thereafter that search and rescue operations are ongoing.
The News Today (TNT) learned that the victim was then tasked by Ong's company to hire Filipino workers that will complete the crew of fishing vessel MV Eable.
Ganancial managed to put together a team of 13 all-Filipino crew that included father and son, Arnold and Mandy Geregale of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. Tamagos disclosed that the vessel owner said the Geregales are among those confirmed missing.
MV Eable left Friday and was apparently met by heavy rains and strong winds off Jakarta, Indonesia.
