City gov't readying 1,140 housing units in San Isidro relocation site
The city government is readying some 1,140 houses for urban poor families living in identified danger zones. The families whose houses were destroyed by Typhoon Frank are placed in the priority list of recipients.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the total number of housing units to be constructed at the 16.2 hectares San Isidro, Jaro relocation site would be 1,140 housing units. Apart from the 1,140 housing units, the Panay Electric Company Inc. (Peco) expressed their intention to develop one village at the relocation site.
Of the 1,080 housing units, 500 houses are funded by the Housing Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and to be implemented by the Department of Social Service and Development (DSWD); 60 houses which are funded by Representative Raul Gonzalez; 300 from the Gawad Kalinga in which part of it is sponsored by Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri; 10 from French government under Chameleon Center and 120 housing units from Community-Led Infrastructure Financing Facilities (CLIFF) of the International Homeless Peoples Federation.
Treñas added Cong. Gonzalez also pledged to finance 300 additional housing units apart from the 60 units. The funds for the 60 housing units is already available. The chief executive is also asking another 500 housing units from Department of Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez Sr. and Presidential Assistant for Western Visayas Raul Banias.
On the other hand, the city government also seeks the installation of water lines to the relocation site from the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD). The water line system costs P2.1 million.
