Iggy to studes: 'Learn and cope with rapid modernization'
BACOLOD CITY -- Negros Occidental 5thDistrict Rep. Ignacio T. Arroyo urged the participants of the 8thDivision STEP Skills Development and Competition to learn and cope with the rapid modernization.
He was the keynote speaker during the opening of 3-day STEP competition, participated in by 840 high school students from 58 secondary schools under the Division of Negros Occidental, held at the V.P. Ligason Cultural Center in La Castellana National High School yesterday.
"The need to learn and be able to cope with the rapid modernization and technology becomes a necessity to move forward," Arroyo told the students.
He said that as delegates to this competition, "you were chosen from among your peers because of your technological skills and abilities. In this competition, you will realize a lot more of your potentials to prepare you for another competition; a competition to survive in the real world of modern technology."
Provincial board member Enrique Miguel "Guding" Lacson also told the participants to explore the world of opportunities, know their talent, harness and develop for future excellence."
La Castellana Mayor Alberto Nicor, Jr. also challenged the young participants to make a big difference out of something they experienced.
This as the mayor believes that through the youth's knowledge and skills, there is still hope to improve the country's economy.
Meanwhile, Negros Occidental Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Rizalino Tortosa, Assistant Schools Superintendent Frank Trio and Jose Freddie Mocon, among other DepEd-Neg.Occ. Division supervisors, school heads, municipal officials, barangay officials also graced the occasion.
The 8thSTEP Skills Development and Competition concluded Sunday with the coronation of Mr. and Ms. STEP 2008 as highlight.
On the other hand, Arroyo also lauded La Castellana National High School for being adjudged as the Most Environment-Friendly School in Negros Occidental this 2008 and regional champion in Brigada Eskwela.
Mrs. Tressa Elbanbuena, school principal, said they will also competing soon in the national final soon.
