Coffee Thursdays
The world without
The rainy afternoons brought us pouring thoughts in our conversation brewing in a coffee shop. My friends opened up a topic of what might be great ideas that could significantly change to a better world. We exchanged ideas on the dependency of human existence on a system of power, economy and material wealth in contrast to basic requisites of living. Our present world is in a continuum of desire to neglect the values of recourse and survive the dog eat dog world. As a result, we live by the rules, commercialism, system of control and paradigm of a world should be. A society mentally created and conditioned to define our produced wants.
At present, man is no longer moved by the simplicity of his hierarchy of needs. Man must compete with each other in order to live. The scarcity of resources is up for grabs and he who holds the big piece of the cake puts himself in a position a step higher and forsakes the rest to subordinate. Similarly, nations and groups concede that strength comes with economy. Barriers grow wider, indifference and mistrust draws a clear line of separation based on the standard of existence.
We came up with three solutions, though we like to think this might give our life true essence of living faute de mieux, these theories aim to free ourselves from the bondage of dominance and allowing us to reflect on the idea of a prototype better world.
Firstly, the world without money: Before market economies existed, our dealings with each other were based on tradition and community cooperation. Daily needs were met on relations of reciprocity or redistribution. Sharing and generosity turns the trait of those who were blessed. Now, as we look at the implications of man's greed for money. The rich becomes richer and the middle class and poor become poorer. If money is relinquished, we just have to succumb to exchange possessions and yield to barter our excess. Perhaps, man can be sustainable and be humbled to only focus on the basic need of the present.
Secondly, the world without nations: the borders build walls, claiming for land and resources leads to discrimination of one's color, orientation and beliefs. If we happen to just cognate under a common ground, there will be no wars, no conflicts of sovereignty, and no threat. Oneness will rise as there will be no labels and distinction, no recognition of race as we belong to one species and accord to one ultimate alliance.
Lastly, the world without power: the quest for control is rooted with a few people in position. Let it be that our system under the solidarity of a group of representatives, scholars, educators and elders based on their wisdom to promote solely harmony and integration. As no money exists, everyone will be handed a responsibility based on their own merits. Thus, corruption and self serving acts will be eliminated and pave a way to conformity of a unified world.
These ramblings may seem far from possible but I would like to believe our security in life is not relative to money, our nation or power. The essentials of humanity are clearly not defined by these. Certainly, our individual rendition of ourselves is not measured by things our society has created important. If only, we can look at how we transformed the methods of our system nowadays, we see it no longer works for the majority, but rather against most of us.
The present world is leading us to a fact that if we don't change for the better, our society's values answer the worse. Based on these assumptions and hope of goodwill in mankind, these three things; money, nation and power the ideal world can live without; the question now poses to all of us; Can we?
