DENR to hold technical conference on Felisa dumpsite today
BACOLOD CITY -- The Pollution Control Division of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Regional Office 6 along with the Solid Waste Management Committee of Bacolod City will hold today a technical conference at 9:00 o'clock in the morning at the PENRO Office Gatuslao Extension, Bacolod City.
This was confirmed recently by Sangguniang Panglungsod Member Greg Gasataya after he received an invitation letter last week from Samson J. Guillergan Chief of the Pollution Control Division.
The technical conference will tackle the complaint lodged by Bacolod City Lone District Representative Monico Puentevella on the Open Dump Operation of LGU-Bacolod located in Brgy. Felisa.
Inspection and investigation conducted Gasataya's office together with representatives from the Lone District Congressman last September 1, 2008 showed that there is an immediate need to conduct engineering interventions to address the negative impacts of the city's open dump operation.
Likewise Puentevella stressed in his complaint that said open dump operation is in violation of Section 37 of Republic Act 9003.
On the other hand, Gasataya said that his committee had already submitted the safe closure and rehabilitation plan of Felisa Dumpsite and in fact the DENR had already forwarded that authority to close two weeks.
Gasataya said that they are ready to present their issues in today's technical conference.
The councilor is expecting the ongoing complaint lodged by the barangay officials of Felisa wherein last session they submitted their position paper asking the SP to present the feasibility study on dumpsite conducted by the Spanish government last 2006.
Gasataya said that the feasibility study is availabile only that they will first invite the Spanish consultant to discuss the matter with them.
