City to tap brgy captains in implementing Sanitation Ordinance
The help of the city's 180 barangay captains is needed in the successful implementation of Ordinance 149 or the Sanitation Ordinance.
Councilor Eldrid Antiquiera, chair of the committee on environmental protection of the Sangguniang Panglungsod, said the implementation of the ordinance would not be successful without the support of the barangay captains and same time the cooperation of every individual.
The barangay captains could also be tapped as part of the enforcement team aside from the police and the representatives from Community Environment Natural Resources Office (Cenro), among others.
Antiquiera said, they (barangay captains) could also issue sanitation citation tickets.
But, Antiquiera said the matter still has to be resolved among the members of the Technical Working Group of the Iloilo City Solid Waste Management Board (ICSWB).
"Everyone has the obligation to protect the environment. The proper waste disposal and waste segregation starting from the barangay level must be observed by every household," said Antiquiera.
Waste not properly disposed pose environmental and health hazard. It will become pollutants to the environment, he added.
Meantime, CENRO said the eight people who were issued sanitation citation tickets during the information campaign period failed to appear to the City Mayor's Office.
