All set for Bacolod City's 70thcharter day
BACOLOD CITY – The most memorable day for Bacolod City is coming as everything is already set for the 70thCharter Day Charter celebration on October 19, 2008.
With the theme "Bacolod, Global at 70", Vice-Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, chairman of the 70thCharter Day Committee said this will be the most spectacular event of the decades where the center of attraction is the parade of floats in the afternoon
With limited budget, he is very proud to say that the committee had maximized it and the good news was the commitment made by some invited cities and municipalities to join the fabulous parade of the decades.
The grand parade is not only limited to cities and municipalities in the province of Negros Occidental but also to some cities in Oriental Negros. Various commercial establishments, schools, non-governmental organizations, government offices, employees and even beauty queens are also included in the list.
Sayson is inviting the people of Bacolod and the province to witness the remarkable event as the charter day will culminate the 19-day celebration of the world-renowned Masskara Festival.
Another good news is that Malacañang has already approved October 20, 2008 as non-working holiday after the Sangguniang Panglungsod and Mayor Evelio Leonardia requested President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo prior to her visit last October 1.
Councilor Homer Bais, chairman of the "Ang Banwahanon Awards" said they have already the complete list of the nominees but refused to announce or name it the same also with the judges who will determine the winners.
"They wanted to surprise the public regarding the awardees so that there is also excitement to the nominees," Bais said.
The award is given to a Bacoleño who has exemplary and selfless civic service achievements that inspired everybody particularly a model worthy of emulation by the residents of City of Bacolod and the country in general.
The nominee should also have a considerable impact for services rendered to the people and the community which have immensely contributed to the economic, cultural, sports, social and educational development of the City.
Bais also said that last year, the Charter Committee selects five outstanding Bacoleños deserving to receive an award but this 2008 at least five were chosen.
The qualifications set by the committee is that a nominee should be a Filipino citizen of good moral character, person of known probity and integrity, resident of Bacolod City for at least ten consecutive years, he/she must come from a private sector and was not a recipient or awardee of the "Ang Banwahanon Award" and be willing to be of service to the City when called upon.
Awards and citations for most outstanding employees and taxpayers also geared up.
This years awarding ceremony will be held in the New Government Center unlike before where it was held in Bays Center.
Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Ronaldo Puno will be the guest speaker of the event.
