Remedial measures
To the motorists as well as residents living along the damaged road section approaching the town proper of San Miguel, Iloilo here is the response of the Elizabeth P. Pilorin, OIC-Chief, Public Information Division, Department of Public Works and Highways with regard to the status of the said road section as contained in a letter addressed to the editor in chief:
"This has reference to the published news article "Never been touched" (TNT, Aug. 26, 2008) regarding the damaged road section approaching the town proper of San Miguel, Iloilo.
It is informed that the DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office has immediately dispatched an inspectorate team who conducted ocular inspection/investigation at the above-mentioned road section. It was found out that the damaged road section is part of the existing Mandurriao-San Miguel-Alimodian-Maasin Road.
It is informed further that two projects for this particular road section are included under the DPWH CY 2008 Infrastructure Program. These are the concreting of Mandurriao-San Miguel-Alimodian-Maasin Road (San Miguel and Alimodian sections) amounting to P28.464 million and reconstruction of Mandurriao-San Miguel-Alimodian-Maasin Road (Pavia, San Miguel and Alimodian sections) amounting to P27 million.
Moreover, the DPWH maintenance crew had undertaken temporary remedial measures in the area to address the problem and to minimize the inconvenience of the travelers and riding public. But due to limited maintenance funds, said measures are only temporary."
Amen to that. But the public is not after the temporary remedial measures being done by your office. What they are asking is, when the road concreting will commence considering that there are already funds for it. The people has long been waiting for the construction of the said road and yet what they are getting are only promises... and lots of promises.
Abortion road in Passi City
Reminds us of the damaged road section in Passi City. It has been reported that funds had already been allocated for the repair of the "abortion" road. In fact, opposing groups have already put up billboards claiming the project. In truth, however, work has not yet started on even a single portion of the damaged road section. Terrible!
