Manapla Jamboree honors Scout Bayoran

The Municipality of Manapla hosted the Boy Scouts of the Philippines Third Council Cultural and Technological Scout Jamboree (CT JAM) held in Brgy. San Pablo recently participated in by elementary and high school boy scouts all over Negros Occidental.
Mayor Manuel M. Escalante III, who is also the Camp Chief, said Manapla hosted the jamboree for the first time and it was in honor of Scout Patricio Bayoran who was one of the Filipino scouters who participated in the world jamboree in July 1963 and died in a plane crash at the Arabian desert.
He was thankful for the support of Gov. Isidro P. Zayco, 2nd District Cong. Alfredo D. Marañon III, 2nd District Board Members Atty. Edgardo Acuña and Dr. Miller Serondo, as well as the schools and teachers who participated in the activities.
One of the highlights of the six-day camping was the fiesta celebration held last October 11 where boy scouts participated in street dancing competition wearing tribal costumes. The activity started with a festival parade followed by an opening program, "laro ng lahi" contests such as kadang, sack race and hitting the pot, and the Search for Lin-ay sang CT JAM 2008 and cultural presentations.
Also present in the camping activities were Manapla Fisrt Lady Lourdes L. Escalante, Vice-Mayor Edgar B. Pagayonan, and Rogelio Garrido of the Boy Scout Council, among others.
