Iloilo City to open library hub in June next year
The city government, through its local school board, is looking forward to open its library hub, a depository of various kinds of books and other reading materials in time for the opening of classes in June next year.
Iloilo City Schools Division Assistant Supt. Dr. Ma. Febe Cang said the first phase of the construction worth P1.5 million is about to be completed and another P1.5 million is now ready to be released for the second phase.
Cang said the library will cater to books of all subjects that will be lent to various public schools in the city for one week.
"This is like a mobile library. The books here, some of which will be donated by the Department of Education (DepEd) will be placed in boxes ready to be lent to our schools," she said.
School board secretary Hernani Guillergan said the establishment of a library hub is a mandatory requirement of the DepEd.
Guillergan said that there are already plenty of benefactors waiting for the building to be finished so that they can donate books to the city.
The board is also visiting local government units that have existing library hubs to gain more information as to the operation of the facility. (PNA)
