High school studes take advance look on college careers in TESDA nat'l trainees' day
Hundreds of Iloilo's high school students flocked the "career profiling" event put together by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).
Dubbed Tesda National Trainees' Day, graduating students, college drop-outs and even the out-of-school youths responded to Tesda's invite for career counselling.
Held at SM City Iloilo, Tesda provincial director Lorena Yunque led the Tesda family. A one-on-one consultation with the students was made alongside participating schools, training centers and similar institutions.
The day-long event managed to showcase an extensive option for graduating high school students with Tesda helping out on the youth profiling.
Career counselling further provided the venue for the students and parents present to seek clarification on requirements and scholarships made available by Tesda.
Tesda services include provision for training courses and scholarships, free assessment services (national assessment and certification) and a language skills institute.
The trainees' day was in consonance with the government's national week advocacy in overcoming poverty. Relatedly, skills demonstration was conducted by a number of schools that showed the tricks and trade of bartending, fruit and vegetable carving, table skirting, production of holiday goodies to the technical Word, Excel and Powerpoint demonstration.
"Stand up and take action," came the message as passed on by Secretary Augusto Boboy Syjuco, Tesda Director-General.
Syjuco has since embraced the empowerment of the students and pushed for government initiatives such as the highly-acclaimed ladderized education program.
Tesda regional office 6 (Western Visayas) is under the leadership of Director Buen Mondejar.
