Treñas raises warning vs. 'akyat bahay' gang
City Mayor Jerry Treñas yesterday called on every Ilonggos to be vigilant against Akyat-Bahay Gang operating in the city especially this coming All Saints Day and All Souls Day. Everyone should be very cautious. "It is unfortunate it happened to me," the mayor lamented.
The chief executive issued the appeal after his residence in Mandurriao was not spared from the attempt of robbers. A man went inside the compound unnoticed by guards. Reportedly, the suspect is eyeing a laptop of Treñas's in-law.
However, the suspect failed to get anything after some of the occupants doubted the man's presence inside the compound. It drew the attention of the guard and the people inside the compound. They immediately called for police help but the suspect already fled.
Treñas lamented that it happened to him even if he is mayor, how much more on ordinary people. He said everyone must secure and exercise safety measures as they leave their homes to visit the different cemeteries. The properties must be protected from the robbers or members of the Akyat Bahay group.
Treñas was in Manila attending the burial of his wife's relative Dr. Francisco Sarabia when the attempt was made.
The police have reportedly identified the suspect who attempted to rob Treñas's house.
The mayor also requested the barangay tanods in the 180 barangays to be on guard against all the criminal elements that may victimize any household as everyone is set to visit the cemetery on Saturday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, the mayor also directed the City Electrician Office to secure all the electrical lines going to all the cemeteries. All the roads going to the cemeteries must be illuminated. The lines must all be functional on October 31, he said.
