Cost of proposed city hall building up by P2-M
The new computation for the construction cost of the proposed city hall building increased by more than P2 million six months after the recent computation was made.
City Mayor Jerry Treñas said in the latest computation provided to them by Architect William Coscolluela, the construction of a seven-storey building now cost P465,039,000. It will be constructed on a land area of 13,158 square meters.
Coscolluela's proposal also contains computation for the construction of five-storey building. The construction of a five-storey building on a 5,558 square meter area cost P348,673,610. Each floor has 2,000 square meters of space, said Treñas.
In March 2008 estimates for the construction cost of the city hall building only amounted to P463,883,922. The estimate was prepared by the Pacific-Orient Consultants & Management Co. Inc. through its General Manager Conrado Goco. When the plan to construct a city hall building was first brought out in 2006, the construction cost for an eight-storey building was only P350 million.
The P465,039,000 costing does not include the installation of air-conditioning units. The city's existing aircon units that are still in good condition would be installed in the proposed city hall building. The rough estimate for the construction cost will be presented today by the chief executive to the members of the city council for a collective decision.
Despite the increase in the construction cost, Treñas is hopeful to start the construction of the proposed city hall building. Based on the target, the construction of the project will start on January next year.
The preparation of bidding documents, awarding and confirmation of contract before the legislative body will take more than two months. However, if the construction could not start early next year, the matter will be left to the next city mayor.
The next city mayor will look for additional funding for the construction of the city hall as Treñas is already on his way out. "Let the next mayor and new set of the city council decide on it." Treñas ends his term in 2010.
