Mayor Bing chosen as NPC chairman for Bacolod
Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia was recently appointed as City Chairman of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC).
Mayor Leonardia was chosen pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution and By-laws of the NPC. His appointment was signed by NPC Chairman Faustino Dy, Jr. and President Frisco San Juan and was noted by Secretary General Michael John Duavit.
Leonardia ran for mayor in the 2004 and 2007 elections as standard bearer of the NPC. Also under the NPC lineup in 2007 was Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson. The NPC councilors who made it were Councilors Greg Gasataya, Homer Bais, Dindo Ramos, Al Victor Espino, Wilson Gamboa, Jr., Napoleon Cordova, Roberto Rojas and Alex Paglomutan.
NPC is the dominant political party in Negros Occidental with 17 city and municipal mayors and 12 board members.
NPC Chairman Emeritus is Ambassador Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco.
"I am very thankful to Ambassador Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco, President Frisco San Juan and Secretary General Michael John Duavit for the honor of appointing me as Bacolod City Chairman. Together with my fellow NPC elected officials in Bacolod, we will do our best to pursue the growth and prosperity of our city according to the NPC party principles", Leonardia said.
Leonardia made history in Bacolod politics by gathering 109,789 votes, the biggest number of votes ever earned by any candidate with a record-breaking difference of 55,412 votes from his closest opponent for mayor.
