Copper letterings in epitaphs, grills in tombs stolen
BACOLOD CITY -- As "Fiesta Minatay" approaches, thieves have taken advantage of stealing some valuable materials at the La Carlota public cemetery.
Some families have complained to the Police that the copper letterings in the epitaphs of their loved ones were already gone, including the steel grills that are supposed to protect the tombs' epitaphs.
Mr. Medy Jolito, a resident, complained that there's nothing left in the epitaph of his relative.
"All the letterings are gone including the R.I.P. (Rest in Peace). This is terrible. They have no respect to the dead," he said.
This public cemetery is also being used as a motel by some students, the cemetery's caretaker said.
He chanced a pair of students on top of the tomb doing their "crazy thing" between 12 midnight to 1 a.m.
They have taken advantage of the darkness, a different kind of coolness and silence of the night at the cemetery.
