NPC's gensets to be operational next month
The 15 modular generator sets to be provided by the National Power Corporation (NPC) to Iloilo City will become operational starting next month. Power players here are firming up the agreement for the interconnection.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the NPC has already requested for an endorsement on the plan to interconnect the modular generator sets to Panay Electric Company Inc. (PECO) next month. The endorsement from the executive department would be forwarded to the Sangguniang Panglungsod.
The interconnection from the NPC to the National Transmission Corporation (Transco), PECO and Global Business Power Corporation (GBPC) needs the approval of the city council. Transco will take care of the transmission lines from the power source to the power supplier. Each generator set can provide 1 megawatt of power.
The chief executive had a meeting with the top officials of NPC, Transco, PECO and GBPC last Tuesday to discuss the future interconnection process. The interconnection is being hastened as the power barge that provides 10 megawatts additional power to the city will undergo maintenance next year.
The modular generator sets would be stationed in the property of PECO at Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao.
The biomass plant of the Central Azucarera de San Antonio (CASA) would also provide the city additional power within a five-month period, said Treñas.
Treñas however said that instead of the 5 megawatts proposed earlier, the sugar central will only sell 2 megawatts to PECO.
Nevertheless, the mayor said, PECO is working for the realization of the deal between them and the CASA.
