Prov'l, city cops gear for observance of All Saints' Day
Full police visibility, police assistance centers and deployment of uniformed and plainclothes men and women of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) and Iloilo Provincial Police Office (IPPO) are a-go. Expected to be busiest though are the traffic enforcers with Senior Inspector Robert "Bob" Foerster of the Traffic Management Enforcement Unit (TMEU) here on the lead.
This, as the nation marks the yearly All Saints Day celebration with peace and order situation highlighting the day.
As maintained in the past celebrations in Iloilo City and towns throughout Iloilo province, normal flow of traffic will be rerouted particularly in both public and private cemeteries.
The News Today (TNT) in a report learned of an earlier command conference with all precinct commanders of the city six police precincts. Similar police conference was held in the province and town police offices. Over-all operation fell under the Philippine National Police's yearly program dubbed "Oplan Kalag-Kalag."
Spot checkpoints has since been effected early this week as random mobile patrol operations will continue throughout the weekend. In effect too is a gun ban and liquor ban in and outside of all cemeteries. Gambling is likewise prohibited.
Usual traffic-congested areas in the city are within the vicinity of Tanza Cemetery and the Chinese Cemetery in Molo district, and Jaro Catholic Cemetery in Barangay Cuartero.
Members of the city's 180 barangays-Civilian Volunteers Organizations (CVOs) will augment peace and order efforts.
Meantime, business is brisk for flower vendors with various plazas used as selling area. Kiosks have also mushroomed in the vicinities of cemeteries including those enterprising KTV owners.
Prices of flowers and floral arrangements are expected to jack up Friday.
