P6M alloted for training of WV out-of-school youth
Some P6-million had been allotted for the training of out-of-school youth in Western Visayas.
This was revealed by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) Regional Director Buen Mondejar during the sidelines of the opening of the 6th Aklan Product Showcase held in SM City Iloilo.
He said that Tesda Secretary Augusto Syjuco had been assigned by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as a steward for pro-poor and livelihood programs for Western Visayas.
Mondejar said, "Secretary Syjuco has given me the go-signal and the project will start this month. The President alloted P6 million, which will be divided among 18 congressional districts in region 6. That would be P330,000 for each district. The beneficiaries are mostly out-of-school youth."
He added that Tesda will train these youth, given allowance and eventually, employment. The system would be output-training-cum-production. Approximately a little over than 50 youth every district will benefit from this project. The average training duration would be a month, depending on the skills needed after a certain project of a town had been identified. "The projects would depend on the congressman after they identified such," Mondejar said.
Tesda, a development arm of the government, was mandated to integrate, coordinate and monitor skills development programs; restructure efforts to promote and develop middle-level manpower; approve skills standards and tests; develop an accreditation system for institutions involved in middle-level manpower development; fund programs and projects for technical education and skills development; and assist trainers training programs.
