Iloilo gives way to its first village eco-park
Barangay San Pedro in Molo district may notch a page in history as the first city barangay to have its own eco-park that will cater to the needs of constituents for a beautiful open space.
Barangay captain Cirilo Lapascua, Sr., said the park was realized through the efforts of barangay officials and residents at no cost to the city government and located along the riverbank of the Iloilo River.
Some 5,000 square meter area was landfilled and cleaned by the barangay people to give way to the park.
Lapascua said the barangay folks and volunteers planted several coconut trees along the riverside, flowers, croutons and other ornamental plants. Native bamboo benches were also built in the park so the people will have a place to rest and enjoy nature.
Lapascua also said that the park is slowly but surely becoming a tourist attraction in the city. The eco-park is located just behind the bus terminal and bus commuters going to the province of Antique usually go to the park to rest.
The park will be inaugurated and blessed November 22 starting at 4 pm with Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez, Sr. in attendance. The Cabinet Secretary is a close family friend of the Ganzon and Lapascua families. (PNA)
