Capiz business sector lauds Global Peace Festival
ROXAS CITY – The Capiz business sector believe that the recently concluded Global Peace Festival-Visayas held on November 17 – 19 here boosted local tourism and has created a positive image.
In a report to Governor Victor A. Tanco, Sr., through Board Member Estevan E. Contreras, rendered by Capiz Visitors and Convention Bureau (CVCB) the group said the impact on the tourism aspect is considered as the awakening of the tourism trade that needs a little fine tuning such as the necessity of having a sales and marketing thrust advertising and joining/attending travel forum/smart, outside Capiz.
They said that the success of this international festival will be a boost to the tourism industry and has given the opportunity to develop further ability to promote the city and the province as the next emerging tourist destination and convention venue as well.
"It has benefited the CVCB member hotels by enjoying 100% rooms occupancy, the restaurants, souvenir shops, tour agencies, taxis and transport sector who handled the tours had increased their revenues during the festival," they said.
Earlier, the Roman Catholic Church called on its followers not to support the festival since it is anti-Christ. However, organizers denied they are anti-Christ by saying that they are bringing people to "One Family under God" regardless of whatever religion they have.
Tanco, who was instrumental for the hosting of the said festival, said that his administration is not promoting religion but the tourism of the city and province.
"We are not promoting religion here but tourism especially our place which is sleeping in terms of tourism," Tanco said.
Reacting on negative feedback, Tanco said that the province does not discriminate religions and beliefs as guaranteed in the Constitution.
