P1 rollback in Roxas City tricycle fare soon
ROXAS CITY – Tricycle fare in this city will drop by one peso soon.
A fare rollback was agreed upon last Saturday during a public hearing called by the joint committees on public utilities chaired by City Councilor Herbert Chu, ways and means chaired by City Councilor Jose "Joe" Agdalipe and rules and ordinance chaired by Ramon Albar held at the Dinggoy Roxas City Center.
Kadamay, Inc. representing the riding public and all operators and drivers association were also present in the public hearing.
Current tricycle fare in this city is P8.00 for regular passengers and P6.00 for students and senior citizens.
It was however agreed in the hearing that the fare rollback would be based on bracketing as the price of oil products is unstable.
The bracketing of fare rates shall be based on the current price of special gasoline and be automatically applied when there is a change in its price. When the price of gasoline reaches below P28.00 per liter, the regular fare would be P6.00, while for students and senior citizens, P 5.00.
When the price of gasoline hits between P29.00 and 49.00, the regular fare would be P7.00, while fare for students and senior citizens would be P6.50.
And if gasoline price reaches from P50.00 to P70.00, the regular fare would be P8.00, and for students and senior citizens P6.50.
Councilor Chu said the discount on senior citizens and students is based on the 20 percent discount as mandated by law.
City Councilor Wilson Acervo suggested that the fare hike or rollback shall be based on bracketing basis so that no more public hearing would be held when the price of fuel goes up and down.
The said public hearing was also attended by City Councilor Rolando Ignacio, Atty. Napoleon Oducado, legal counsel, Joel Perion, president of Alliance of Roxas City Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association, among others.
