Atty. Ike Barredo shows interest in serving birthplace
BACOLOD CITY -- Three-termer former Provincial Board member of the 4thDistrict of Negros Occidental, now Special Assistant of Gov. Isidro P. Zayco for Special Concerns, Atty. Ike Barredo has shown interest to serve Bacolod City, the city of his birth.
He is the son of the youngest member of the Bacolod Sanggunian former Councilor Atty. Ben Barredo, (1959-1963), the author of a City Ordinance which authorized the establishment of the Reclamation Area in Bacolod City.
He was the Board Member of the 4thDistrict of Negros Occidental for nine years. He ended his life as a public servant in June 30, 2007. He then became the consultant of then Governor Joseph G. Marañon and currently a Special Assistant for Special Concerns of Gov. Zayco.
He helped former Governor Marañon and Gov. Zayco now in programs on cooperative, livelihood and entrepreneurship.
"We want that Negrenses would put interest on business or entrepreneurship rather than be job oriented. China is an economic oriented nation. But we Filipinos, we produce wealth based on natural resources," he said.
During the time of former Governor Marañon, they decided to dispose the property at the back of the Provincial Capitol Building to help the local government units in the province in its economic enterprises. The property is worth P4 billion.
Gov. Zayco, being the member of the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Council is also touching base with the Department of Trade and Industry on its SME programs.
Barredo also mentioned that Bacolod City also needs to have a solid economic policy aside from focusing on infrastructure developments.
He wants to adopt good government practices when given the chance in the Lone Congressional District of Bacolod City.
"I will serve God through public service so that I could make a difference in the lives of others," he said.
"Bacolod City is a free City "Anybody can run because there is no elite political grouping in the city, unlike other places outside of the capital city," he said.
Barredo is a member of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC). Being a good soldier, he will abide by the decision of the party on whom they will field for the Lone Congressional District of Bacolod City.
Barredo has also his views on the proposed Charter Change. "Cha-cha is no laughing matter. This will affect the life of the nation because the Constitution is being tried for amendments and revisions. The Representatives of the people should base their decision on Cha-cha on the true and real sentiments of the people. They are the representatives of the people and therefore they should serve as the voice of the people. In my own observation, the people do not want Cha-cha. If there are changes in the Constitution, it should be crafted by the legal minds like lawyers. Let the legal minds fulfill the desire of the people. We are talking about the principle of law and it would be easy if lawyers will make it," he said.
Moreover, there are several aspirants for the Lone Congressional District of Bacolod City.
Reports have it that former Bacolod Congressman John Orola, Jr. will stage a comeback. Presidential Deputy Spokesman Usec. Anthony Golez, Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson and LTO-NCR Director Ricardo Tan are also eyeing the Lone Congressional post.
