Church forms fact-finding mission for MKNP
BACOLOD CITY -- Bacolod Bishop Vicente M. Navarra, D.D. has commissioned some priests from the Diocese of Bacolod to conduct a fact-finding mission on the situation at the protected areas of the Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park (MKNP) where the Energy Development Corporation is having its geothermal project.
This was learned from a letter sent by Bishop Navarra to the chair of Sangguniang Panlalawigan committee on environment Board Member May Javellana.
Bishop Navarra said that the purpose of the fact-finding is to gather information for education campaign to the people of the Diocese of Bacolod and to dialogue with the concerned stakeholders of the Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park exploration.
His preferred dates were December 1-4, 2008. However, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan only received the letter late afternoon of December 3.
"I know that you are with us on the objective to care for our environment, especially for the protection of the Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park for the common good of our people," Bishop Navarra said in his letter.
