BTA urged to impose 'truck ban' along Sum-ag Road
BACOLOD CITY -- Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, in today's session, would be asking the Bacolod Traffic Authority (BTA) to impose a truck ban along CEGASCO - Sum-ag Road while the rehabilitation of the national road by the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) is ongoing.
Sayson said he has received numerous complaints from the riding public about the traffic congestion in the area.
Sayson proposes a truck ban from 6:30 until 9:30 in the morning, and from 4:00 in the afternoon until 8:00 in the evening.
Sayson believed that through this measure, the heavy traffic problem would be reduced considering the volume of vehicles coming from the Northern part going to Brgy. Sum-ag.
Sayson noted that the area going to CEGASCO is the only route of all heavy trucks loaded with sugarcane and with sand and gravel.
Sayson further questioned the acts initiated by the DPWH in rehabilitating the roads without anticipating its effects.
Meanwhile, BTA is now preparing a re-routing scheme for the opening of the New Government Center (NGC) next week.
Sangguniang Panglungsod member Wilson Gamboa Jr. had already conducted a public hearing on various transport groups that will be affected by the opening of the NGC.
Routes affected are Brgy. Alangilan, Granada, San Dionesio, Fortune Towne, FF Gonzaga and Sta. Fe. Route. City Administrator Dr. Roger Balo yesterday said that on December 16, 2008, there will be a partial transfer of different offices from the old City Hall to the NGC. Offices included in the initial transfer were City Engineers, City Accounting Office and the General Service Office. Balo further said that he is now conducting a physical inventories of all furnitures and fixtures from the old city hall. He said that there were 18 more departments that did not submit their actual inventories for their old facilities.
