No more P10 add-on starting Dec. 15
Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 6 Regional Director Porfirio Clavel reminds taxi operators and drivers of the suspension of the P10 add-on rate among taxi cabs starting Monday, December 15, 2008.
Clavel said the operators and drivers must comply with the directive otherwise violators could be charged of overcharging their passengers.
Clavel said such violation could result to the suspension or cancellation of the franchise of the taxi unit. The riding public is encouraged to report the drivers who would still charge the P10 add-on rate starting Monday, said Clavel.
The P10 add-on was implemented in the second quarter of 2008 after the LTFRB approved a 50-centavo increase in the minimum fare for jeepneys and P1 for buses.
The temporary removal of the P10 add-on rate was the board's response to the petition filed by the National Council for Commuters Protection (NCCP) following the continuing slump in in oil prices in the world market.
Clavel said there would be no fare reduction yet on taxis unlike in public jeepneys. The LTFRB only approved the temporary removal of the P10 add-on rate.
The board will still review the impact on the decline of oil prices on taxi fares. Earlier, the LTFRB officials said the P10 add-on fare for taxis is only temporary. It could be scrapped by the agency when gasoline and LPG prices go down significantly.
