Violence erupts after heirs fence public road
Officials and members of a prominent family in Passi City are set to try to reach a deal today regarding their dispute involving a major street.
This after unidentified persons erected a bamboo fence closing Dorillo Street to human and vehicular traffic yesterday morning. Authorities tore down the bamboo fences and removed the barricade at around 10 am yesterday but not after Poblacion Ilawod Barangay Captain Cornelio Teves and Avelino Lebrilla exchanged blows.
Lebrilla, a former barangay captain of Brgy. Man-it also in Passi City, is married to one of the heirs. However, the incident was quickly settled. No arrests were made, and no charges were filed against the parties, Police Officer 3 Rolly Baxinela said.
Traffic along the street resumed immediately after the fence was removed.
Police in Passi City are clueless on the persons responsible for the closure of the street. But they believe that the fence must have been erected either at dawn or early morning, because there was none the night before.
However, police officers whom The News Today asked for over the phone distanced themselves from the incident, saying that Passi City police chief, Supt. Mariano Palmes instructed them not to be involved as it was a private matter.
City Councilor Aura Landar-Layesa, whose house is situated along the street, said over a radio station that she was shocked to wake up to a text message informing her that a portion of the street has been fenced.
Dorillo Street, which is situated in the city proper, gives access into and out of Passi National High School.
The heirs of Regino Dorillo, a pre-war assemblyman, claim that street and a portion of the lot were the PNHS is located as part of their inheritance. A case has been filed and is pending in court.
