Prov'l PUJs OK 1-peso fare rollback
ROXAS CITY – Provincial public utility jeepneys (PUJs) and bus owners and drivers associations are amenable to the fare rollback as Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Regional Director Porferio Clavel directed recently.
However, they urged Land Transportation Office (LTO) to strictly implement its regulation against the rampant operation of "colorum" or non-franchise vehicles in the 16 municipalities of Capiz.
This was the sentiment of all association presidents from 16 municipalities during the consultation meeting held at the Provincial Capitol with the committee of Board Member Baden Cantiller, chair of Committee on Transportation and Communications and Public Utilities.
They complained that they are legitimate franchise holders who paid all licenses and other permits from the Local Government Units (LGUs), LTO and LTFRB and they should be protected by such government agencies.
According to them, it's unfair on their part that some "colorum" jeepneys are also plying their routes without having permits and payments to the concerned government agencies.
Presently, the minimum fare rate is P8.00 and additional P1.00 for succeeding kilometer. The fare rollback agreed during the consultative meeting was P7.00 and P1.00 for succeeding kilometer.
It was learned that tricycle fare rollback of P 1.00 was already approved last month during the consultative dialogue conducted by members of the city council with petitioners and different tricycle owners and drivers associations (TODAs).
However, since the price of gasoline is not stable, the fare decrease or rollback will be based on the bracketing that will depend on the special gasoline price.
A City Ordinance was also approved to that effect recently and subject for implementation.
