Treñas positive on city's business climate for 2009
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas remains optimistic on the city's business climate for next year and is positive that the global financial crisis will not have a considerable impact on the city's economy.
"2009 may be a little difficult, but I am very hopeful with the business prospects of the city based on the manifested interests of some of the country's major business players. Megaworld is certainly decided to push through with their construction next year," the mayor said.
Treñas also mentioned that the city is now busy assisting Megaworld Corporation (MC) in processing their papers since they will start their site development next year. MC acquired the 54-hectare old airport lot in Mandurriao for P1 billion and is set to turn it into a business and residential mecca for the Ilonggos.
Ayala Land has also sent communication that they are interested to begin business in the city by 2009 and is also looking for a prime area for their building that could possibly cater to the business process outsourcing industry.
Meanwhile, the coal-fired power plant located in La Paz, which invested billions for its establishment, already had its groundbreaking recently and is expected to be completely done by 2010; various infrastructure projects for the city from the Department of Public Works and Highways are also lined up and the mayor is certain that it would mean additional employment for the residents.
"With all these prospects coming in by next year, I am really hopeful that our local economy will not be as bleak as in other parts of the world," Treñas said. (PIO)
