5 Capiz towns hit by flash flood
ROXAS CITY – Five towns in the province of Capiz were affected by the flash floods brought by continued rains last December 31, 2008.
Major Arnold Talabucon, chair of Capiz Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) identified the affected towns as Sigma, Cuartero, Pontevedra, Panit-an and Dao.
The town of Panay was also reported to have experienced flash flood but the water immediately subsided.
PDCC reported that in the town of Pontevedra there was actual evacuation of 18 families whose houses were flooded.
In Panit-an 17 barangays were under water affecting 322 families. Dao town on the other hand had 12 barangays affected by flood displacing 383 families.
Meanwhile, the road sections in the 1st and 2nd districts of Capiz which were under water recently have already been declared passable.
PDCC reported that millions worth of damage had been caused by the flood to the agriculture in the second district of Capiz.
Meanwhile, one person was reported to have drowned because of flood in Jamindan, Capiz.
The victim was identified as Sugar Verde of Brgy. Pangabat, Jamindan.
