A Promise
It's a brand new year once again, another year to hope for the betterment of our lives. New Year’s resolution list is already present and prepared as early as the last day of the previous year. We Filipinos are always like that. We hold on to the promise we made for own selves and even expecting a promise done by our friend, our parents or our partner in life. Cliché it may sound, but promises are made to be broken, right? So why promise? Promises are broken most of the time; no one is exceptional not to experience broken promises. But good thing about promises is that, we are looking for that something in the future. We feel the excitement to have that promise thing, time or intangible good to be delivered on the date of promise. If it will fail, it will not be just like the tagline of a chicken inasal chain, “Failure to deliver in 30 minutes, it will be for free.”
Anyway, I have another way of expressing a promise to all of you my dear readers. You don't have to take the quiz. Just read straight through and you'll get the point, an awesome one...
- Name the five most influential people in the world.
- Name the last four Oscar Award winners.
- Name the top three of the Miss Earth 2008.
- Name two winners of the Palanca Award.
- Name the wealthiest person in the world.
How did you do? Mind boggling work or perhaps, no idea on what to answer at all? My point here is, none of us remember the newsmakers of yesterday. High regards are given to them. People look at them because they are indeed the best in their fields. We wowed at them at the height of being in the limelight. However, as time fades, the applauses die and the awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Plaques, trophies, and certificates are buried with their owners.
See how you do on this one:
- List five teachers who aided your educational journey.
- Name four close friends who helped you face the challenges of life.
- Name three people who molded you to become a better person.
- Think of two people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
- Think of a person whom in one way or another, you touched his/her life.
The people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with most credentials, most awards, most money or the most successful. These people are truly the ones who care for us. And they are the ones who are always remembered.
Now, this year 2009, let's make a promise to remember the persons who touched and who made a great impact in our lives. Let us promise to engrave them in our hearts that no matter how controversial and hitmakers individuals attract our attention, they won't be forgotten. Time may fade but these persons will always be present in our minds and in our hearts. Let's hold on to the promise, let's not make broken promises, after all it's New Year. Let it be a part of our New Year resolution.
Today, January 7, 2009, my special someone and I celebrate our 31st Monthsary. Dear, thank you for the gift of the gift of love. Thank you for everything. I promise to love you with all my heart. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.
