City to convene Business and Economic Council
BACOLOD CITY – City Administrator Rogelio Balo will be the one to initiate the reconvening of Business and Economic Council in preparation for the impending impact of global economic crisis.
Balo said he started the research for the formulation of economic policies of the city to counter the world problem which is already experienced by some countries even the superpower, United States of America.
"Maybe this week, the council will meet so that it can render proposals to the mayor," he added.
He preferred to strengthen programs which are labor intensive like infrastructure where the low-earning individuals are dependent on.
"The rich people would not be greatly affected that's why the local government and even the national government should be prepared on how to give solutions and opportunities to the poor who will be displaced by the crisis," Balo stressed.
Meanwhile, Bacolod Councilor Celia Flor said the city should have a Bacolod Anti-Poverty Council by now.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia has already created the Bacolod Anti-Poverty Council through an Executive Order but its membership is not yet complete until this time.
"The poor will be the ones greatly affected by the worldwide economic crisis since the Philippines is a third world country," Flor said.
The printing of the survey forms for the poverty mapping of the city has already started.
"With the continued support of the mayor, the survey and poverty-mapping will be hastened in planning poverty programs to be implemented this year," she added.
