Cops blank on killing of car dealer employee
Gunmen sprayed automatic gunfire on the employee of a car dealer here early morning last Friday along a busy street in broad daylight, killing him and baffling police investigators on the motive and identity of the killers.
Police are still investigating the likely motive why two gunmen onboard a motorcycle shot Rustico Vega Jr., service manager of Honda Cars Iloilo, as he was alighting from a public utility jeepney in front of their showroom in Benigno Aquino Avenue, Mandurriao district at about 8 am.
After shooting Vega, the gunmen, who are still unidentified, fled towards the direction of the City Proper.
Fellow employees brought Vega to the nearby Iloilo Doctor’s Hospital where he died due to multiple gunshot wounds, mostly in the back.
A woman, 40 year old Jinky Pedrosa, was hit in the leg. Likewise, bullets hit two cars parked nearby for servicing as well as the showroom.
Police recovered 19 empty shells, including about 15 lodged inside a bag for a badminton racket, and five slugs of what appears to be 9mm caliber from the scene.
It is believed that the gunmen tailed the victim, who is a native of Cebu, from his house in Happy Homes in Zarraga town, all the while concealing the machine pistol inside the racket case.
Witnesses told police that they cannot identify the killers because they wore helmets and black jackets. One of them was driving the motorcycle, while the other was the triggerman.
For most of the day Friday, Mandurriao district police chief, Chief Insp. Orly Gabinete was out of the office spearheading follow up operations regarding the killing.
