Tupas delivers SOPA
Dress code up for SP body
Iloilo’s official state will be known today as top government officials and executives from national and local agencies converge at the Capitol.
Such, as this year’s 3rd Regular Session of the 9th Iloilo Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP) will have on its privilege hour Governor Niel Tupas Sr for the yearly State of the Province Address (SOPA).
As in past SOPAs, all other items up in the weekly agenda will be set aside. Even the regular physical arrangements too inside the SP session hall.
As of yesterday, extra chairs were being readied to accommodate at least a hundred more in spectators alongside members of the 9th SP.
A special reminder and notice were sent out last week by SP Secretary Lorenzo Tubola to the SP body.
“...kindly come in your Barong Tagalog/Filipiniana attire…,” the reminder went.
The SOPA is in accordance with Republic Act 7160 otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991.
Today’s SOPA is the 8th of Tupas since his assumption as governor of Iloilo and the second on his latest and last term.
As in previous SOPAs, the governor’s message usually reflects his budget message and reported accomplishments of his administration.
And as in last year’s SOPA, the governor’s statements will be closely be scrutinized by the SP body primarily by Vice Governor Rolex Suplico.
The vice governor is the governor’s “prodigal” nephew with the duo’s politics and governance at odds for years now.
