PNP Chief set to visit Capiz
ROXAS CITY – Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Jesus Versoza is set to visit Capiz in February this year.
This was announced by former PNP Chief and now Metro Rail Transit (MRT) General Manager Roberto Lastimoso in a blocktime program "Idiretso kay Lastimoso" over Bombo Radyo – Roxas last January 17.
The "Idiretso kay Lastimoso" is a weekly radio program of Lastimoso's son and Capiz Board Member (BM) Rommel Lastimoso that tackles environmental, peace and order as well as security matters, and other local and national issues. The program is anchored by the younger Lastimoso and Pontevedra town Councilor Allan Catalan.
The upcoming visit of PNP's top cop in the province was announced by the elder Lastimoso in line with the program's discussion of a possible provincial peace and order summit next month.
"Governor Tanco is willing to have the peace and order summit idea which originated from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to take place," said BM Lastimoso, adding it will be appropriate to conduct it in time with Versoza's visit to the province.
The program's hosts also took time to discuss with the former PNP Chief about the flaws of the law enforcement authorities' anti-drug operations which end in the dismissal of drug – related cases.
The discussion about illegal drugs campaign was in time with the national government's renewed and intensified campaign to make local government units (LGU) drug-free zones.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has called on local government units (LGUs) to declare themselves as "drug-free zones."
This was announced by the President during a Cabinet meeting in Malacanang last January 13 as she ordered an "all-out war, an unyielding and unrelenting war against illegal drugs and their devil merchants." (PIA/A.Lumaque)
