Water in two Guimaras villages Ecoli contaminated
Water supply in two villages of Jordan, Guimaras have been temporarily shut-off while fears of similar fate hang in neighboring communities.
This, as a recently-concluded university study disclosed findings of water samples here found to be positive with ecoli bacteria.
The water source, Jordan Water District, was immediately informed of the results as news gathered by The News Today (TNT) confirmed the temporary shutdowns.
It was a management decision, TNT sources revealed as efforts to remedy the disturbing findings were correspondingly made.
Bombo Radyo Iloilo in a related news got hold of Jordan Water District General Manager Nelson Bebangco.
Bebangco in said interview identified the affected areas as barangays San Miguel and Ravena, two of the most populated villages in the island-province.
He also allayed fears of the locals saying water treatment and disinfectants will take care of the contamination.
Ecoli bacteria usually stem from human wastes and contamination to water or other food sources causes gastro-intestinal parasitism and urinary tract infections.
It was not immediately clear how many families were affected by the water supply shut down. Water district officials also have yet to ascertain when normal operations will resume in the two villages.
Meantime, potable water supply will have to come from commercial water stations here with a steady supply also readily available in the town proper.
