'Better forget about running for president'
ROXAS CITY – Considering that Sen. Mar Roxas’ rating is always far behind among presidentiables, a political analyst who spoke on condition of anonymity suggested that the senator should no longer aim for the highest position of the land come 2010 election.
“If the rating of Sen. Mar Roxas will still be the same in April and May this year, he has to look for other options than to continue his presidential bid in 2010,” said the political analyst.
The same political analyst said that Sen. Roxas is far behind based on series of Social Weather Station (SWS) surveys. He added that for the sake of unity in Capiz, Sen. Roxas can settle down to become the running mate of another presidentiable Senator Manny Villar or may seek reelection.
The source said if Sen. Roxas will pursue his plan to run for president, there will be a showdown between the Liberal Party (LP) and Nationalista Party (NP) in the province of Capiz.
“I think history will repeat it self,” the political analyst said referring to the political showdown between Sen. Gerry Roxas (LP) and Nena Dinglasan Consing (NP) in the 1960s where Roxas won with a small margin.
Sen. Roxas is the national president of the LP while Senator Manny Villar is the NP stalwart. Both of them are claiming that they are native of Panay island.
Meanwhile, a source from the Roxas camp said that the Capiceñ senator will not settle in any public office other than the presidential post.
