Barredo denies running for Mayor of Bacolod in 2010
BACOLOD CITY -- Atty. Ike Barredo, former 4th District Board member, now Consultant for Special Concerns of Governor Isidro Zayco will not run for Mayor in the City of Bacolod.
This he clarified after reports came out lately that he is running for Mayor under the Liberal Party.
He, however, said he was invited by LP especially in their New Year's luncheon meeting in Bacolod City.
"But it does not mean that I will be running for Mayor. Our party will field me in the Congressional post. I have not yet accepted it because I am still consulting," he said.
Barredo said that in his last term as Board member of the 4thDistrict of Negros Occidental, then Gov. Joseph Marañon and then Vice Gov. now Gov. Isidro Zayco asked him if he's willing to run for congressman in 2010 under UNA.
"It's an honor for me to be asked that way. And I told them that I should consult my family, relatives and supporters. And until now, I'm still consulting whether I will run or not. It's no joke to run in Bacolod City. Even though I used to serve the city of my father which is Bago in the 4thDistrict, I was born in Bacolod City and its time for me to serve the city of my birth in whatever capacity," he said.
He hopes and pray that UNA will convene soon so that we will know the “true state of our alliances because of one intervening event which is the death of former Gov. Marañon who was then the Chairman in the Provincial level.”
Barredo said that technically, he cannot join any party because he still belongs to the UNA-NPC.
Former Board Member Victor Puey who is an LP official said that Liberal Party will not field candidates except that they will re-organize their supporters in the province.
Barredo is the son of former LP stalwart, Atty. Ben Barredo, when he ran for Governor in 1963 and No. 1 Councilor of the City of Bacolod in 1959 – 1963.
