Teachers
Teachers portray the noblest profession of all so they say. Last Friday, a day before the Dinagyang celebration, St. Joseph School (Iloilo), Inc. celebrated Teachers' Day. Through this activity, the SJS community gave honor to us, teachers. A program was held prepared by the Josephian Student Council (JSC) led by Anna Alyssa Robledo in cooperation with the HRD and our Guidance Counselors.
Being a teacher for five years is already a rewarding achievement on my part. Who would ever think that I will become a teacher? Looking back at my high school days, I dreamt of becoming a lawyer or an interior designer. And I guess, in layman's point, I just heard the “calling” of being a teacher, just like Jesus when God called him to become a rabbi.
Teachers play a very versatile role in the development of one's educational growth. I can still remember my college instructor who said that in every decision I will take, I will consult first my heart and think about the final decision overnight. I always smile when I remember this, because until today I apply this rule in my life.
“A teacher affects eternity: he can never tell where his influence stops,” beautiful lines from Henry Adams. Teachers are often called Sir, Ma'am, Miss; the teacher, guro, maestro, maestra, their mentors. Our role as teachers is an indispensable one. We are the primary molders of child's development, the ones who have power to shape the future of this country. And in our hands lie the responsibility of producing quality and productive citizens of this land. It is in our sworn duty as teachers to ensure human development amongst our students.
Our service in education places upon our shoulders unique and with specific challenges. Human development leads to educational development which assumes a larger significance because through these, they often lead the country in terms of industrial progress.
With the emerging globalization and with the boom of technology and multi-media, the challenge to all of us, is greater than ever. We keep on enhancing our capabilities and our abilities to meet with the higher standards and demands in achieving quality education as we perform our noble task as teachers. It is our primordial task of educating our young people. Teaching is an active, “challenging and creative way of life.” Therefore – we have to be abreast and motivated to go beyond bounds and limits in ensuring human development as reflected in our duties. That is why I always live by this line, “Teacher guid ako, not teacher lang ako.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once said and I quote, “The greatest thing in this world is not so much where we stand as in what direction we are moving.”
HAPPY TEACHERS’ DAY TO ALL THE JOSEPHIAN TEACHERS!
