Salary of traffic aides up for release
City Mayor Jerry Treñas yesterday assured all traffic aides that they will soon receive their salaries from January 1-15, 2009. He said he has already signed all the required documents for the release of the salaries of the traffic aides.
Treñas' statement was in response to the clamor of the city’s traffic aides on the delay of their salaries from January 1-15.
The mayor said the delay was caused by the requirements they set for the traffic aides to undergo drug testing. It is a prerequisite to them before any reappointment is approved.
The drug testing became mandatory among the traffic aides after a traffic aide was apprehended by police authorities positively using illegal drugs. The city mayor also wants those traffic aides fielded on the streets to be drug-free.
The contract of traffic aides who failed in the drug test are not renewed by the city government. The traffic aide pays for their own drug test.
The delay was further caused by the busy schedules of city hall heads that have hands in the release of the salary. The delay was aggravated by the holding of the Dinagyang 2009, said Treñas.
