Farmers receive seeds, fertilizers from province
The Provincial Government of Negros Occidental through its Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) distributed 10,675 bags of organic fertilizers and 185 sacks of registered rice seeds amounting to P2.3M to farmers during a turn-over at Brgy. Tabunan, Bago City yesterday.
Forty-five farmer associations from 23 towns and cities of the province under the Ginintuang Masaganang Ani (GMA) Cluster were the main recipients of the agricultural inputs along with three Non-Government Organizations (NGO’s).
This OPA project is in line with the Governor’s HEARTS PLUS agenda that includes attaining food security by increasing food production.
Gov. Isidro P. Zayco commended Provincial Agriculturist Igmedio J. Tabianan and his office for a job very well done and expressed his gratitude to all farmers for putting the province in the 11th rank last year and recently moved up to rank number nine among the highest producer of rice in the country. Various associations were also awarded for their outstanding performance in terms production and practices in the field of agriculture.
Sixth District Board Member Adolfo T. Mangao, Sr., Chairman of the SP Committee on Agriculture, pointed out that high cost of agricultural production is the reason why the provincial government initiated this project.
Vice-Gov. Emilio L. Yulo termed the seeds as “champion” and emphasized that there is a need to properly utilize and reproduce them to ensure food security in the province.
Fourth District Representative Mae C. Javellana expressed hopes of increasing food productivity as she challenged them to practice organic farming in line with the province’s thrust of making Negros the Organic Bowl of Asia.
