4 hurt as murder suspect runs wild inside IRC
Four inmates of the Iloilo Rehabilitation Center (IRC) were rushed to the hospital yesterday following a surprise attack from a fellow inmate facing murder charges.
The attack occurred about 3:20 a.m. inside “Selda Dose” of Area 1, a section of IRC inmates facing heinous crimes.
The attacker was identified by authorities as 25 year-old Roger Arroyo, the cell leader or “Selda Mayor.” Armed with a broken steel part of the bunk bed, Arroyo with no provocation at all, began to hit cell mates who were all asleep.
It took responding jail guards some five minutes to totally subdue Arroyo who was believed to be suffering from depression.
An IRC insider told The News Today (TNT) it has been months since Arroyo got a visit from family members. He was also known for his “quiet and relaxed” demeanor since his November 2005 incarceration. Arroyo was also never involved in any jail incidents making yesterday’s attack the first and baffling jail authorities.
The injured inmates were Billy Buenavista, Fermin Paniza, Federico Lachica and Juanillo Francisco. The four were known to be buddies of Arroyo particularly since they were all “under” his cell “leadership.”
Arroyo meantime was put in isolation and was up for psychiatric and medical check-up.
