Overloaded cargo trucks destroy concrete roads -- DPWH
DUMALAG, Capiz – Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 2nd Engineering District revealed that the overloaded ten-wheeler cargo trucks are the one destroying our concrete roads.
Asst. District Engr. Hector Gargoles said that the capacity of concrete roads is only 20 tons but there are cargo trucks which are loaded with 45 to 50 tons cargo.
According to him, in order to prevent the overloading, the DPWH has put up a weighing scale somewhere in Iloilo so that it will limit cargoes and prevent overloading.
He added that once the cargo truck is overloaded, they have to unload their excess cargoes and reload it again when they come back.
Gargoles also said that violators are being fined for violation of load limits in the highways.
Former Senator Franklin Drilon, in a press conference in Kalibo, Aklan last year, said that the bad condition of the highways has always been a problem of government causing a lot of expenses in its maintenance.
Presently, bad road conditions are experienced in the boundary of Dumarao and Passi going to Pototan and some parts of Iloilo province causing Capiceños to pass the Tapaz-Calinog highway in going to Iloilo.
