PNP to probe rising rape cases in Aklan
KALIBO, Aklan -- Aklan Provincial Police Director Sr. Supt. Clarence Guinto had ordered a full-scale investigation into the rising rape cases in the province for nearly two months.
According to Aklan Philippine National Police (PNP) reports, at least seven rape cases, with victims' whose ages range from five to 20 years old, have already been recorded since January.
Reports said that at least three rape cases have been recorded in the Boracay Police Station.
One sex abuse case each has been recorded in the municipalities of Numancia, Makato, Madalag, New Washington, Altavas and Kalibo.
"We, in the Aklan PNP, prioritized the safety of women and children. This is the reason why I ordered full investigation on this incidents," said Guinto.
Police also said that aside from the complainants who had already come into the open, there are also more victims, who have yet to file their complaints.
"We wanted to know what are the factors involved? Why there are rising rape cases now in Aklan, in order for us to find ways how we could prevent it," Guinto said. (PNA)
