Napocor’s Panay Diesel Power Plant now privatized
The 146.5-megawatt Panay Diesel Power Plant (PDPP) owned by the National Power Corporation (Napocor) based in Tinocuan, Dingle, Iloilo has been privatized.
The PDPP was privatized together with the Bohol Diesel Power Plant, based on information obtained from the website of the Private Sector Asset and Liabilities Management (PSALM).
The SPC Power Corporation won the bidding for the two plants with a rated capacity of 168.5 megawatts.
Meanwhile, even with the privatization of Napocor assets here, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas wanted the Napocor to make true its commitment of providing 15 generator sets to the city.
The 15 generators sets with a capacity of one-megawatt each were supposed to be delivered to the city last year.
Treñas said with the privatization of the PDPP, he is not certain as to when the new management would start its operation and provide more available power to the Panay Electric Company (PECO) and the Cebu-Negros-Panay grid.
Just recently, he was informed that PECO which supplies power to the city is only getting eight megawatts out of the 15 megawatts that it has contracted with the Napocor grid. (PNA)
