W. Visayas cops to get guns, radio sets
Police officers in Region VI will be receiving additional firearms and communications equipment.
Philippine National Police chief, Dir. Gen. Jesus Versoza made the announcement Friday last week, during the blessing of the 39 new patrol cars and motorcycles issued to police stations around Western Visayas.
During the press conference, Versoza told reporters that police regional offices nationwide will each receive at least one 6x6 truck.
The police chief admitted that the 100,000+ strong-PNP is short on firearms.
Based on initial accounting, around 20,000 police officers have no government-issued firearms, he said.
Under the present General Appropriations Act, the PNP has enough funds to purchase 5,000 long and short firearms. But the PNP is also set to recruit 3,000 more police officers.
With the new patrol cars and motorcycles already turned over to the various police units, PRO 6 will next receive communication units, Versoza said.
We will next give you communication equipment to improve communication between police units, he said.
He, however, did not mention when the radio units will be delivered.
Versoza was the keynote speaker during the 18th Founding Anniversary of the PRO 6 Friday at the Camp Martin Delgado.
