Capiz pays tribute to Capiznon National Artists
ROXAS CITY -- Government officials, artists and residents here will pay tribute to their homegrown National Artists, Jovita Fuentes (Music) and Daisy Hontiveros-Avellana (Theater) by offering a performance tribute entitled SALUDO on February 23, 6:00 PM at Capiz Provincial Park, Roxas City. This project is spearheaded by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and Dagway Sigmahanon, Inc. (DSI) in partnership with Capiz Provincial Government in celebration of the Philippine International Arts Festival and Provincial Arts Month 2009.
SALUDO will bring on stage the songs and theater works of Fuentes and Hontiveros-Avellana. This event is aimed at giving honor to these outstanding artists for their contributions in the international and national development of culture and at the same time raising the level of arts appreciation and education of Capiznons. It will give inspiration Capiznon artists, especially the youngs, to explore the limits of art and create new perception. Moreover, they have made their fellow Capiznon proud of their Province and identity.
Fuentes, whose 104th birthday fell on Feb. 15, was declared National Artist for Music in 1976, while Hontiveros-Avellana received the same award for Theater in 1999.
The Order of National Artists (Orden ng Gawad Pambansang Alagad ng Sining) is the highest national recognition given to Filipino individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts.
This project is part of Gov. Victor Tanco’s program through the Provincial Tourism Office’s of uplifting the artistic capability of Capiznons and gearing them towards development of the community.
Together with the nationally-acclaimed Dagway Sigmahanon, Inc., other performing groups and individual artists to perform also include Charlene Aguanta, Rainilda Andojado, Robilyn Dumala, Ma. Yvette Andion, Cresencia Domingo, Marigor Medina and Caressa Siglos, Sinadya Chorale and Filamer Christian College Dance Company. The University of San Agustin Chorale will be the special guest performer. Mr. Al Tesoro and Mr. Arne Lubasan are Director and Musical Director, respectively.
