Super Lotto frenzy hits Iloilo
Will the country wake up today to welcome the next multi-millionaire coming from Iloilo?
With projected P300 million (roughly US $6M) at stake, super frenzy hit the city’s Super Lotto outlets. Lines have been consistently long since Wednesday with the close of last night’s sale adding excitement to the brewing lotto frenzy.
Even non-gamblers were among those lured inspired with “beginner’s luck.”
Such was the ultimate push for a law student of University of San Agustin who also works part-time to augment meager allowance.
“Several times the draw yielded no winner so I thought this must be for me. Each of my numbers – 07-16-20-23-48-49 – and 05-08-11-18-27-31 have significance in my life. I had to trim down my choices though because initially I had the number “50” along with it. I was told it was Super Lotto 6/49 thus six numbers only with choices 1 to 49 only too. At least now I know we should not go beyond 50,” the aspiring multi-millionaire said with a huge smile. “They have yet to invent a lotto game that is up to 50.”
As a matter of precaution “and security reasons once I win,” he requested anonymity.
The same positive thinking too for a longtime Capitol employee and a mother of three. Two tickets with carefully chosen numbers were also bought at P10 per bet.
“My numbers are the same numbers my mother used to bet on when she was still alive. Maybe this is her gift to me now,” she said while neatly securing her Super Lotto 6/49 ticket.
Asked on whether she wants to be identified in this interview, “maybe I should just be anonymous. But you will be the first to interview me if I win.”
Another bettor reached by The News Today (TNT) was a 40 year-old wife of an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW). The husband is a ship captain and though earning relatively big, hopes for the big lottery win are equally present.
“We want him home already. We have two teen-age children and he has been working hard for the past 30 years of his life. If I win this, I will surprise him and tell him to immediately tender his resignation,” she said.
Lotto outlets in malls and city’s sidewalks recorded the most number of business activity in years.
